The inspiration to create Talon Designs fused glass originated from seeing the beauty of the hand-made glass of Venice and Istanbul during my travels. The name however stems from our American and my own personal military heritage. The eagle and its talon symbolize strength, hardness and the sharpness of a razor. The bonds between individuals created and fused by battle are reflective of these qualities, while making us aware of the fragility of life. The bond created in fusing glass under great temperature brings separate and distinct material together as one. In doing so it provides strength through density and softens the “razor edge.” The diversity and beauty of glass with its colors, form, and function, provide a reflection of life, and a reminder that it is ultimately fragile.
Having
grown up in a military family and traveled the world, I spent nearly a thirty
year career of my own in the U.S. Air Force, continuing the heritage of serving
our country. Today, I have “settled down” and am a resident of Montgomery,
Alabama where I live with my wife Beverly and engage in my artistic pursuits. I
have always enjoyed creative activities in various mediums, and the
satisfaction of seeing and sharing the finished product with others. I hope you enjoy my hand-made American fused
artisan glasswork.
